Successful Workshop on Responsible Electronics

On 9–10 July 2026, the SUPERLASER project successfully organised and hosted a two-day online Workshop on Responsible Electronics, bringing together ten projects of the EIC Portfolio “Responsible Electronics” (ReTronics) (Working Group 1: Technical Synergies), strengthening collaboration and accelerating progress towards more sustainable electronic technologies. The workshop attracted more than 45 participants from across the portfolio and provided a platform for researchers to present their latest scientific advances, exchange knowledge, and identify opportunities for future collaboration. The event also explored shared challenges related to sustainability, scalability, eco-design, and life-cycle assessment, reinforcing the portfolio's common commitment to responsible innovation.

The workshop opened with welcoming remarks from Isabel Obieta, EIC Programme Manager, who highlighted the importance of portfolio-wide collaboration, followed by Konstantinos Rogdakis, from the ELEGANCE project and leader of the WG1 ReTronics Portfolio, who underlined the value of fostering synergies across projects. Thereafter, Maria Vasilopoulou, SUPERLASER coordinator, welcomed participants and emphasised the opportunity to deepen mutual understanding of the portfolio's complementary research activities.

Over the two days, representatives from all participating projects presented their latest results and ongoing work in areas including sustainable materials, semiconductor processing, photonics, neuromorphic electronics, recycling technologies, life-cycle assessment, and eco-design. SUPERLASER contributed three presentations showcasing the project's work on:

  • Design rules for perovskite laser diodes | Robert Gehlhaar (IMEC)
  • Perovskite superlattices for superradiant lasers | Maria Vasilopoulou (NCSR)
  • Life-cycle assessments and sustainability of halide perovskite optoelectronics | Rosario Vidal (INAM-UJI)

The workshop concluded with a strong commitment from participants to continue collaborating through joint publications, future networking activities, and the exchange of best practices. By bringing together expertise from across the EIC Responsible Electronics Portfolio, the event successfully strengthened partnerships, fostered new synergies, and contributed to maximizing the impact of EIC-funded research on responsible and sustainable electronics.
