Athens Science Festival 2025

Christmas presentations: SUPERLASER Engages the Public at the Athens Science Festival 2025

SUPERLASER was presented to a wide and diverse audience during the Athens Science Festival 2025, one of Greece’s leading science and innovation events. As part of the festival, two post-graduate students from the research group of Georgios C. Vougioukalakis at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens—Charalampos Petrakos (PhD Candidate) and Dimosthenis Awad (MSc Student)—actively engaged visitors through interactive chemical demonstrations while also introducing the goals and vision of the SUPERLASER project.

Alongside hands-on experiments designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for chemistry, the students presented an accessible overview of SUPERLASER, highlighting its ambition to develop ultra-narrow linewidth perovskite lasers. These next-generation light sources have strong potential for applications in areas such as quantum technologies, advanced photonics, and photovoltaics, making the project highly relevant to both scientific and societal challenges.

Founded in 2014, the Athens Science Festival has become a flagship event for science outreach in Greece, attracting visitors of all ages through interactive workshops, science shows, and live demonstrations. Its mission to make science accessible, engaging, and inspiring strongly aligns with SUPERLASER’s commitment to public engagement and science communication.

By participating in the festival, SUPERLASER demonstrated how cutting-edge research can be effectively communicated beyond the laboratory, fostering dialogue with the public and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers. This outreach activity reflects the project’s broader vision: not only to advance laser technology, but also to build awareness and excitement around the scientific innovations shaping our future.
